About Us

A brief summary of our history, our support staff, and the organizations to which we belong, written by the owner.

Our History

Fortunately, I was introduced to the fascinating world of reptiles and amphibians at an early age. As a youngster, at any one point in time, you could find five or more terrariums in my room containing anoles, iguanas, snakes, plated lizards, tree frogs, newts, monitors, toads, frogs, bearded dragons, geckos, turtles, and salamanders.

In fact, I used to pay for all the animals I kept by mowing lawns and selling baseball cards. I would then ride my bike to the drug store, get a money order, and mail it to whichever reptile company I was ordering from at the time. Those were days that helped form the bedrock of a lifetime zeal for reptiles and amphibians.

Our Support Team

Our nearly 3,000 square foot facility is brimming with successful breeding projects, healthy animals that are well cared for, and a supportive staff of individuals who are also passionate about reptiles, including…

Amanda

If you e-mail us at any given time, you’ll be communicating with one of three people—and Amanda is one of them. She’s been an absolutely fantastic addition to our team, and has a rock star work ethic. Her favorite pet is her anerythristic Savannah monitor “Nyke,” who is never far from her, even at the office.

Amanda enjoys snakes, tarantulas, and a variety of other critters. She’s also a video editing expert, and will be the brains behind our upcoming YouTube video channel. Here she is with our resident 5-foot Colombian red tail boa.

Meg

There’s also a good chance that Meg will be on the other end of an e-mail you send to us. She’s been a very welcome addition to the Backwater team, with experience in customer service, a cheerful attitude, and of course a love of animals.

She’s taken a real liking to some of our eight-legged critters and is really enjoying raising her young Antilles pink toe, “Manson.” She also cares for a Ball python at home, which her whole family enjoys.

Sam

The owner and resident chameleon breeder, Sam recently hatched-out 39 Yellow-lip Parson’s chameleons after 577 days of tedious incubation, which is the first time this has occurred on the continent. He’s hatched-out 24 chameleon species in all, as well as countless Leopard geckos, Box turtles, and more.

Sam previously worked at Apple corporate for eleven years as a financial modeler, creating complex predictive forecasts for the online organization. His work brought him around the world, from Beijing to Ireland, but he always had time to care for, breed, and monitor his reptiles.

Undergroundreptileshub- Chelsey

Chelsey

When it comes to social media, Chelsey is our resident phenom. Our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, as well as our reptile blog and weekly newsletter, are all managed by her, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the job she’s doing. She’s our lead marketer and resident photographer.

Chelsea was surrounded by reptiles growing up, and kept a Corn snake for many years. Her family even had a six-foot Green iguana that roamed the house freely. She has a particular fondness for our resident Leucistic Ball python, which she’s pictured holding to the left.

WHAT OTHERS SAY?

Steve here from Minnesota. I wanted to thank you for going above and beyond with my recent order. It is often hard to know that you will actually get 100% satisfaction when ordering something over the Internet. I feel that I got 110% and wanted to send a note to specifically thank you for your work and help and care. Less and less often these days, it seems that companies are not concerned about making happy customers. You have made me and my son very happy with your service, quick response and going above and beyond. I look forward to doing business with you again!

Satisfied Customer

Earlier in December I purchased a female Ball Python from you and I have to say I'm completely happy. Not only is she healthy, but she's also incredibly active, docile, and friendly. I have her feeding on frozen large mice already and after the first feeding session she knew the separate tank was meant for eating. Also, in July I purchased a Russian Tortoise from here and he's doing wonderful. He'll actually hang out on the bed and watch tv for a little with me before passing out for a bit. I can honestly say that I'll recommend you to anyone looking for any type of pet you sell. I can't be more happier than I am with your service and the care the animals have before I receive them. Any future purchase I make will be through here first and foremost.
